2009 VMAs

  • Sep. 14th, 2009 at 10:09 PM
I didn't get to watch this because I forgot, but I heard about Kanye dissing Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech. Basically Taylor was saying her thanks and how glad she was that she won, and Kanye freaking takes the mic from her and says that he thought Beyonce's video was the best.

WHAT THE FUCK KANYE?

God, that was so rude. Like seriously Taylor is a new comer compared to Kanye and she won a really great award, way to totally make her uncomfortable on stage.

Sheesh, he's such a tool. And a publicity whore.

Hey, Arnold!

  • Sep. 1st, 2009 at 10:46 PM
Hey, Arnold! is a trending topic on twitter tonight because the JoBros and Demi lovato posted tweets saying, "Move it football-head!"

I miss that show! I made me think back to the days when I used to watch it, and I remember enjoying it as well. If Nickelodeon were to air that show I would definitely watch it.

Haha this is under news just because I didn't want to create a new tag. Whatever, get over it people! :)

CLANNAD
Genre: Comedy, Drama, Harem, Psychological, Romance, School Life, Seinen, Slapstick, Slice of Life
Summary: Tomoya Okazaki is a third year high school student resentful of his life. His mother passed away from a car accident when he was younger, causing his father to resort to alcohol and gambling. This results in fights between the two until Tomoya's shoulder is injured in a fight. Since then, Tomoya has had distant relationships with his father, causing him to become a delinquent over time. While on a walk to school, he meets a strange girl named Nagisa Furukawa who is a year older, but is repeating due to illness. Due to this, she is often alone as most of her friends have moved on. The two begin hanging out and slowly, as time goes by, Tomoya finds his life shifting in a new direction. (Summaries provided by ANN and AniDB)

Clannad is definitely the most touching story I've ever watched. I admit, at first I thought it went really slow. I only gave it a chance because my cousin would always mention it and urge me to watch it. I didn't really want to because she said it was so sad, but it made me curious because she mentioned that her brothers who watched this cried as well, haha. I watched it, and the first few episodes were nice, and I guess, I got pulled into the story a little. But when it got the the "Fuuko arc", as I like to call it, it became a little slow for me, plus I didn't really like the Fuuko character anyway. There were random scenes that seemed off from the story line but I didn't worry too much about that, well okay, I did, but when I asked my cousin about it he said that he didn't know how to answer me without spoiling it. Anyway, after the Fuuko arc was done, I didn't feel like watching anymore so I took a break and I resumed watching a few weeks later. The episodes that followed were definitely more interesting, that was when I got hooked. Because I took a break from the series for a while, I forgot all the characters' names, so I had to remember them again. I remember watching and I got really curious about something so I asked my cousin about it, she absolutely wouldn't tell me, but my curiousity got the best of me and I checked the Wikipedia page for Clannad and I totally spoiled myself. I had no idea about the ending, I wouldn't even have guessed right. So here I was, sitting in front of the laptop and simply dying to get to the end, and it wasn't bad at all. In fact, I loved it! The pacing was great, I felt that the characters definitely took time to build up their relationships and it all worked out in the end. I give this a 4/5 because of the beginning, but the rest flows smoothly. :)

CLANNAD After Story
Genre: Comedy, Harem, Romance, School Life, Seinen, Slapstick, Slice of Life, Tragedy
Summary: A sequel to the anime based on the Key Clannad franchise. After Story is a path that opens in the original visual novel after all the other paths have been opened. Life continues on for Tomoya. A few months have passed since he confessed his love to Nagisa. Now entering his graduating year, he continues to meet a variety of different people, expanding his own world in the process. As well, Tomoya and Nagisa's relationship begins to enter a level of intimacy unlike before. Through his relationship with Nagisa, and his various encounters, Tomoya begins to understand the meaning and importance of family. Unfortunately, as Tomoya and Nagisa begin their own family together, they are faced with many hardships and challenges along the way. (Summaries provided by ANN and AniDB)

The way Clannad ended was exciting, so it made me even more excited to watch the sequel. I thought this was SO much better than the prequel! It gets way more interesting, and it leaves the high school life behind so it gives the viewer a little more of the "slice of life" genre. If I thought Clannad was touching, this touched me even more. Unlike the previous one, this concentrates more on the two main characters, Nagisa and Tomoya, and their relationship with each other. I cried so much while watching this, but it was hard considering my brother was playing on the computer behind me, and my mom even decided to sleep in our room one day, It would have been embarrassing to get caught crying over this, but I couldn't help it! I seriously tried not to cry, but it was useless. If you do watch this and you have a heart, you will definitely, without a doubt, CRY! It was so heart wrenching in the middle, and I didn't think they would be able to wrap it up nicely since I was getting close to the ending, but when I watched what happened it totally blew me away! I could NOT believe the ending, even though I'm extremely happy that in ended the way it did, but the sadness I felt still lingered. You really can't help but feel for the characters, and that is amazing. The random scenes I mentioned? Don't worry about it, they covered that too, and now I understand. I definitely give this a 5/5. Beautiful masterpiece! :)

Gekijouban Clannad (Movie)
Genre: Drama, Romance, School Life, Seinen, Tragedy
Summary: Okazaki Tomoya is a student who goes to school only as a force of habit. He continues to be plagued by nightmares of a world with nothing left, where his existence is a mere consciousness. On the way to school one day, he meets a girl called Furukawa Nagisa, who from then on follows him to school every day, unable to climb the stairs by herself. While helping Nagisa to organize the Drama Club, Tomoya slowly starts to open up and actually enjoy his life again. But the dreams he has might be something more than just dreams... (Summaries provided by ANN and AniDB)

BAD. Well, not bad. But after having watched this after I watched the series, it really doesn't compare. I suppose someone who hasn't watched the series can watch this and see all the MAJOR plot points of the series itself, only portrayed in a slightly different way. Anyway, I thought the movie was boring, but I made myself finish watching anyway. I have no idea why I did. Maybe it was good after all? Ugh, I really don't know what to say, but it's basically the major points in an hour long movie. So that's it. 3/5 because I've seen better.

Have you seen it? Have you seen it yet? No? GO SEE IT!!! It's frikkin amazing! Best one yet in my opinion.  I felt like it stayed really close to the book, except for a few scenes that got me confused, but not by much, it fit in pretty well with the way the movie was going. I love love love the way this movie was directed, the camera work was very good, and the special effects were especially great! The actors are still really good. They all play their parts really well, and there was something about this movie, and I couldn't pinpoint it exactly, but I felt like the actors are doing much much better with their roles and such. So much better, in fact, that while I was watching them, I forgot that they were real people living in the real world.

I really don't know what to say, it was just really enjoyable. Go see it. It's the must-see movie of this summer! :)

I'm so excited for the 7th movie.

Sweeney Todd: The Motion Picture Soundtrack

  • Jan. 19th, 2009 at 1:01 PM
YES! I went and bought this the same day I bought Twilight: The Score. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! I've been wanting to own this since the day I finished watching the movie and I became obsessed with it.

I especially love the little booklet it came with. I suppose it could be the little thing that they usually slip inside the CD case where the album art is, but this is so much thicker, so it's separate from the CD, but it's enclosed in the same sleeve. So that was an added bonus, or not, since I had to pay more than if I had bought the regular CD. But it has all the lyrics and pictures and I LOVE IT! So worth my money. But maybe that's just me since I love this movie so much. =P

Twilight & Twilight Score

  • Jan. 18th, 2009 at 9:30 AM
This movie review is long overdue. I saw it way back in November the week it was released, but I didn't write a review for it back then because I was pretty much got bored of the movie during the first half, but I'm not saying it was bad. I admit when I saw the trailers I was like,  oh god, they've ruined the books. This is wrong, blah blah blah. But when I saw it the 2nd time over winter break, I liked it better. But again I didn't write a review, but I want to write one now because I bought a CD related to Twilight and I want to talk about that too.

So. Twilight. Movie. Huh. Well, I thought that they compressed the movie really well, because the book is so thick and all, but then again Twilight isn't the most complex story, it's just really interesting. Anyway, The first half. To me it was boring, I already know what it was about, and it was all talk, but I totally get that since that's how it is in the book, but I dunno, it just bored me. I wasn't even paying attention half the time, but I did the 2nd time I watched it. I really like how Kristen Stewart played Bella, she didn't ruin the part at all. Kristen didn't appear to be as whiny as the Bella in the book. Robert Pattinson was good as well, but honestly I think that nobody can play Edward except for the character himself. But like I said, Rob did a good job and I was pleased with it. Charlie was awesome too, I could totally see him in my head when I read the book again, the Cullens were awesome as well. I love the casting and all, but Emmett was someone I couldn't see in my mind even when I tried to picture him, maybe that's because I have my own Emmett in my mind. Jessica, Mike, Erik, Angela, Tyler, and Jacob were not how I pictured them in my head, and I understand that not all of them could be the people in my head, you know? But I liked how they played their characters. Taylor Lautner, on the other hand, I can't picture him in New Moon, but we'll see how Summit handles that. Considering of course they don't already make a sukish movie by rushing it. It's all in the hands of the new director.

I would also like to point out that there were a few awkward camera movements, and of course some cheesy lines. They were cheesy to begin with in the book. But I didn't mind, but hearing it being said out loud was just like... gah. Also, I couldn't help noticing the cable pulling on Edward's shirt when he jumps from his window to the tree... I couldn't help laughing at that. Lastly, the sparkle was BAD. BAD BAD BAD.

Moving on, things started picking up for me during the baseball game! Yayy. It was so fun to watch. The game, combined with the music, made it so fun and interesting. I would say that that scene is my favorite.

I loved everything that came after the baseball scene as well. The whole thing  with James was very action-packed and had my eyes glued to the screen. Plus Cam is totally HOT! I think they mixed a good amount of action and suspense in that particular sequence. And also I especially love the part where Alice (who is SO cute with Jasper!) jumps on him and rips his frikkin head off! That was amazing. Also there was the part where Edward had to suck the venom from Bella's blood. I especially loved how they played that in the movie since it wasn't as intense for me in the book as it was in the movie.

Overall, I think the casting was great, the parts were played well, and I am hoping that New Moon will turn out to be good as well. I don't want them to butcher it since New Moon is my favorite book in the series.

***

I was at Best Buy yesterday and I was looking for some new music to add to my growing collection. I was actually looking for something particular, I couldn't find it until I headed over to the soundtrack section. It was there that I saw the Twilight albums. and I say this in plural form because there are 2 albums to choose from. The first one, Twilight: The Original Soundtrack, is composed of the songs played throughout the movie by various artists including Paramore, Muse, Blue Foundation, Linkin Park, etc. I didn't but that one. The other album was Twilight: The Score, which is the background instrumentals they played during the movie. I remember really liking those particular melodies when I watched the movie, and so I bought that one.

I listened to it at home after ripping it to my iPod and I really like it. Listening to it was a nice change of pace from the other songs I like to listen to, plus there are no lyrics so I can concentrate more on the work I am doing.

Sweeney Todd

  • Dec. 21st, 2008 at 6:42 PM
Burton is the best film director next to nobody! That's my opinion, mind you. And I love this movie! I think this is my new Burton favorite. Honestly, I've only seen five of his movies, but I absolutely love his creativity! I also love how in Sweeney Todd, I felt for a moment that I was in that particular period of time in England where there was a very distinct difference between the poor and the classy. Anyway, macabre Broadway musical, anyone? That's what you're going to get if you ever decide to watch this. It's rated R for a reason. The blood and constant killing every ten seconds didn't bother me, though. I love it that much. The casting was PERFECT! I can't stress that enough, who knew Johnny Depp can sing? I was totally blown away when he sang "My Friends," it got stuck in my head for the rest of the day, and Helena Bonham Carter's voice really complements Depp's. Ho-hum... I can't think of anything bad to say about this movie. Except there was a part that bored me a little bit, it was a song number that went on for like a good five minutes or so. Blah, I'm not going to lower my rating just for that. Don't think that this movie is only about a mindless killing spree, it actually has a plot, and just when I was enjoying it too much there was this huge twist at the end that left my mouth gaping - and no, it's not when everyone dies, but it's pretty darn close. iTunes better put this up soon because I want it!!!

The Host

  • Nov. 26th, 2008 at 5:24 PM
For those of you who don't know this here review is about The Host, a book by Stephenie Meyer. I was at Barnes and Nobles buying a book for my English class, and I saw the book on one of the tables. I had heard of it, and I've even thought of reading it, but I wasn't sure. I loved the Twilight series so much that I thought that if I read The Host it would ruin Meyer for me, but it was so thick, and I love thick books, so I bought it. :))

It was very confusing at first, I had to read the first chapter two times to let my brain comprehend it, but it didn't really make sense, so I read on. It made more sense as the story went on, and by the time I've read a fifth of the book I couldn't put it down. I blew off my homework for this! It's more sci-fi than romance, and I have no qualms about that, it was honestly really good. It shows humanity at it's best, and that being human doesn't necessarily make you human in a deeper perspective. I cried during some parts, I had to lock myself in the bathroom for those, haha. It's just so touching, especially the last four or five chapters. I hope they make this into a movie - a good one, because I need my fix of this novel, there ain't enough fan fiction out there. :(

One Tree Hill: Season 5

  • Nov. 2nd, 2008 at 10:16 AM
It was a short season compared to the others. Plus there wasn't really much going on, the biggest moment for me in that season was when Lucas told Peyton he hated her. GAH. Well, I'm still going to buy the DVDs. :))

An Intro:

I make stuff. I mean I write fanfiction, draw fanart, make fan icons, color bars, etc... I'm a fangirl for short. I write reviews as well, I like to voice out my opinion on what I've seen, and recommend them to others as well.

I'm also pretty lazy. And I enjoy my time alone. I'm the kind of person who wouldn't mind staying at home all day if I had something to keep me busy and/or entertain me. But I do get tired of routines, so you'll hear me complain once in a while. I like the Asian stuff: Manga/anime, dramas and the like. They make me the fangirl that I am now. Also, I love to read. My favorite kind of books are those thick ones that have continuing sagas. :3

I'm pretty shy, it's not easy for me to open up to people either. But don't stop that from trying to talk to me, I'm not that introverted. =) Anyway, hope you like what you see in my LJ. The TAGS are there, so use them to your advantage!
